Celebrate Earth Day and Benefit Columbia Green
In celebration of Earth Day, Saluda's Restaurant and Mo Mo's Bistro have pledged five percent of their restaurant sales next week to Columbia Green and the South Carolina Ag in the Classroom Fund. Both restaurants are celebrating Earth Day from April 20 through April 26 with a variety of special lunches and dinners that feature organic food and wine as well as locally grown products.

Tree Workshop a Success
Columbia Green members and guests heard tree care tips during a four-hour symposium at the Robert Mills House on Saturday, April 4th. The symposium, co-sponsored by Columbia Green and Historic Columbia Foundation, was led by trained arborists from one of Columbia's leading tree care firms, Sox and Freeman.

Upcoming Project: Boyden Arbor entrance to Fort Jackson
Columbia Green has agreed to take on beautifying the Boyden Arbor entrance to Fort Jackson. This entrance off of Percival Road is used by families and friends of soldiers graduating from basic training at Fort Jackson. Every Friday, approximately 3,000 people pass through this gate to watch the 1,000 new graduates parade across Hilton Field.

More than 350 people, including novice and accomplished gardeners, neighbors, outdoor lovers, Mother's Day celebrants and the frankly curious, visited twelve sites in Columbia's Forest Acres neighborhood. Many were people who drove or walked by these homes on a regular basis and "wanted to know what the rest of the garden looked like."

There are a multitude of ways to support Columbia Green without ever opening your checkbook. Columbia Green has been a volunteer-driven organization since its inception in 1984. While we have recently hired a part-time administrative aide to help us stay on top of membership renewals and the demanding day-to-day organizational work, the majority of the work done by Columbia Green is handled by a plethora of volunteers, both on and off our 20-member board.
